Today Doug Smith is focused on his life long love of the arts. He moved to the water in Eastern North Carolina to pursue his passion for sculpting and writing. He is presently developing a novel, epic speculative fiction for the young at heart, that he plans to release in 2017.
Previously Doug Smith specialized in business leadership, evolution of strategy and team/tactics to drive and earnings and valuation. Doug actively led the development of vision, strategy formation and leadership of the team in multiple businesses.
Doug Smith was formally the CEO of Oceus Networks, a broadband services and solutions provider that empowered government and industry to deliver high-speed voice, video and data communications in the most demanding circumstances. Doug founded Oceus and led it to become an industry leader in delivering advanced LTE capabilities to DOD and Public Safety.
For more than 20 years, he has led teams focused on the advancement of broadband communications, and was recognized by Tech America with the 2011 Innovator Award for Government Services. Prior to his current role, Smith served as president and CEO of Ericsson Federal Inc. where he established the company as a leader in delivering broadband technologies to the civilian and defense government communities. Smith also led Ericsson North America’s business development activities, including formation of the team and identification of key markets, new customers, and investment opportunities.
Smith’s education is in fields that remain a strong interest today and underlie his passion for the way technology is used to transform business and our economy. He earned his MBA in International Economics with marketing and economics emphasis from Texas Christian University, and received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in physics from Oklahoma State University.
